Driving when there is a lot of traffic on the road or during Colorado’s notorious weather changes can be dangerous, but there are also certain days of the year where the chances of getting into a crash increase. These are often holidays, but one of the most dangerous driving days in the year is actually the Monday after the annual switch to daylight saving time, according to statistics compiled by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Another weekday that is dangerous to be on the road is Friday the 13th. According to a study done by an insurance company in the United Kingdom, accident claims went up 13 percent on this day compared to other days in the same month.
However, outside of a few exceptions, the majority of dangerous days to drive are holidays. Memorial Day weekend, New Years Day and Thanksgiving all make the list of times of the year in which drivers are most likely to be involved in a collision. Unsurprisingly, the one of the most common factors in these accidents is alcohol, but aggressive and distracted driving along with congested roads are also frequent reasons that people end up in a crash.
It is not uncommon for motor vehicle accidents, whenever they occur, to result in a significant financial burden for those who are injured. They can often produce high medical bills, and victims may lose wages as a result of an inability to return to work during the recovery period. If the accident was caused by the negligence of another driver, it may be appropriate for the injured person to discuss with an attorney the advisability of filing a personal injury lawsuit seeking the recovery of damages from the responsible party for the losses that have been sustained .
